Projects Overview
With ambitious sustainability goals in mind, Endress+Hauser set out to build a new office space in Burlington that would accommodate growth and drive employee engagement. The new space is twice the size of their former facility and houses office and recreational space, a collaboration lab, and training and repair facilities.
The 4,400-m2 (47,360-ft2) Customer Experience Centre is a two-storey, state-of-the-art structure designed to achieve net-zero energy, zero carbon building standards, and gold-level leadership in environmental design certifications.
MTE’S Involvement
Our civil engineering team joined the project to set the groundwork for the facility. We completed the site grading, servicing and stormwater management design, which incorporated low-impact development components, including a bioswale.
Powered by 775 solar panels, the building is capable of generating 408,000 kilowatt-hours per year; well above the company’s average annual consumption of 350,000 kilowatt-hours. The facility maintains an indoor temperature of 20 degrees Celsius year-round with a geothermal heat pump system comprised of 24 boreholes to a depth of 180 m, 9 km of piping, and 130 heat pumps. These features, in combination with south-facing windows to capture sunlight and a triple-glazed façade to prevent heat loss, makes this one of the greenest buildings in the country.
In April 2023, the project received the SAB Canadian Green Building 2023 Award for Commercial/Industrial (Large).
